How Dr Desmond Ooi's clinic handles your personal data

This notice explains what the clinic collects when you send an enquiry on this website, why it collects it, and who else handles it. Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) also gives you rights over this data, set out near the end.

Who collects your personal data

Dr Desmond Ooi, a vascular surgeon, consults at two clinics, both called Advanced Vascular Centre: one at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and one at Mount Alvernia Hospital.

His practice, Advanced Vascular Centre, is responsible for the personal data collected on this website.

In this notice, "the clinic" means his practice.

What the enquiry form asks for, and what is saved with it

Every WhatsApp button on this website opens a short enquiry form first.

The form asks for four things.

  • Your name, which is required
  • Your mobile number, which is required
  • What you would like to ask about, which is optional
  • How you heard about Dr Ooi, which is optional

Along with what you type, these details are saved with your enquiry.

  • The page you sent it from, and which button you pressed
  • The message that opens in WhatsApp, which repeats your name and your question
  • The codes in the ad or link that brought you here, if you arrived from one
  • The website that sent you here, if any, and the first page you opened on this website
  • The description your browser sends to every website, such as its name, version and device type

You do not need to put medical details in the form.

They are best discussed with the clinic when it replies, or at your consultation.

Why the clinic uses your details

The clinic uses your details for three purposes.

  • To reply to your enquiry on WhatsApp and arrange your visit
  • To sort enquiries by topic, and to notice one whose words suggest it needs a quicker reply
  • To count which ads and pages bring enquiries, so it can judge its advertising

What happens when WhatsApp opens

When you press "Continue to WhatsApp", WhatsApp opens with your message already written, addressed to the clinic's WhatsApp number, +65 8313 4212.

Nothing is sent on WhatsApp until you press send there.

WhatsApp is run by another company, Meta, which handles your messages under its own privacy policy.

Who else handles your enquiry

The clinic uses service providers to run this website and keep its list of enquiries.

Each one handles your details to provide its service to the clinic.

  • A web hosting company runs the website and passes your enquiry to the list.
  • A database company stores the list of enquiries on servers in Singapore.
  • The clinic's website and marketing provider manages the list for the clinic and counts which ads bring enquiries.

The website itself can add an enquiry to the list, but it cannot read the list back.

Measuring visits and ads

At the time of writing, this website uses no tool to measure visits and no code from an ad platform.

The enquiry form never passes your name, number or question to a measurement or advertising tool.

What this website keeps in your browser

This website sets no cookies of its own.

It keeps up to three small notes in your browser's storage, on your own device.

  • How you first arrived: the codes in the ad or link, the website that sent you, and the first page you opened. It is used for 90 days, so an enquiry you send later is still matched to the ad.
  • The code from the latest ad you arrived from, used for 90 days for the same reason.
  • A short code made from a mobile number you sent, used for one day so the same enquiry is not saved twice. It is not your number.

These notes stay in your browser until you clear this website's data in your browser settings.

Other companies' services on these pages

Some parts of these pages load from other companies' servers.

The fonts and the map come from Google, and the code that draws the pages comes from a public code service called unpkg.

When your browser loads them, those companies receive your IP address (the number that identifies your internet connection) and the description your browser sends.

Google may also set its own cookies through the map, under Google's privacy policy.

How the clinic keeps your enquiry

Your enquiry is kept in the clinic's enquiry list so the clinic can reply to you and arrange your visit.

You can ask for it to be removed at any time, using the contact below.

Asking about your data

Under the PDPA, you can ask the clinic to do three things.

  • Give you a copy of the personal data it holds about you, and tell you how that data has been used or shared
  • Correct personal data about you that is wrong or incomplete
  • Stop using your details, if you withdraw your consent

Send your request to the data protection contact below.

Questions and complaints about how your data is handled go there too.

Who to contact about your data

You can write to the clinic's data protection contact at dr.desmond.ooi.gs@gmail.com.
