Dr Desmond Ooi's qualifications from Southampton, NUS and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
He qualified in medicine at the University of Southampton in 2005, then worked in the UK for a few years.
He then trained in general surgery in Singapore, and completed a Master of Medicine in Surgery at the National University of Singapore.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
In 2016, a Health Manpower Development Plan award from the Ministry of Health supported his specialised training in vascular and endovascular surgery in the UK.
He has taught at the NUS medical school.
As an Adjunct Assistant Professor at two medical schools in Singapore, he received multiple awards for teaching the next generation of surgeons.

He was formerly a Senior Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he also held the post of Patient Safety Officer.
In that post, he assessed patient safety in the hospital against international standards and national guidelines.
He played an instrumental role in setting up the hospital's vascular department.
His team was awarded a Public Health Grant from the National Healthcare Group (NHG) to streamline diabetic foot care. This led to the establishment of the hospital's Diabetic Foot Service.
